A Healthy Approach Pays Off

Posted on 09 December 2008 by phil_hall

Every now and then you meet one of those human energy forces that just blow you away.   This week I met a businessman called Dr Kartar Lalvani and his son Tej, who between them run Vitabiotics.   Kartar is 77 and invents all the company’s products. He started the company nearly 40 years ago mixing a potion to cure mouth ulcers. It now has over half a dozen market leading products and the company turns over more than £300 million.   But wait for it, in between this human dynamo has written a book and opened London healthiest Indian restaurant, the Indali Lounge in Baker Street. When I visited him there on Friday he was mentoring the chefs in between greeting customers.   Later we returned to his stunning apartment overlooking Regents Park. It is an Aladdin’s cave of antiques which he sifts from auction houses all over London.   Tej meanwhile travels the globe driving the business, which where possible has there products made locally in the various countries they now trade in.   So here is a prediction, the Indali Lounge is going to become the hot new restaurant in London and the brand will spread across the country.   Why? It has a unique proposition. The Indian food has no ghee, butter or oil. It is made from pure, healthy products… just like range of potions available from Vitabiotics.   The book by the way is so un PC is it going to maske all sorts of waves. While so many of his countryman attack the British for their influence on the world, Dr K believes the British have been responsible for the growth of India as an economic powerhouse.   Watch this space and I will let you know when it is published.
